History of Ice Skating

The history of ice skating goes back to when humans would tie animal bones to their feet and go across frozen rivers, lakes and canals.  This would happen mostly in the winter or in cold climates.  After many years, people used metal or iron connected to their shoes and not animal bones.  Ice Skating was not for poor people, just the well-to-do people could ice skate, but now it is for anybody that can pay for the skates or rent them , but mostly every one can skate.
A man named Jackson Hians created ice skating the way we know it now.  He  was born in 1840, in New York.   In 1863 and 1864, he won championships in America, but he always disliked the U.S. and left for Europe and became very popular in Vienna.  He created the International Style of figure skating.  He died in 1874 of pneumonia when traveling from St. Petersburg to Stockholm.
