History Of Ice Skating

The History of skating started when it was invented by Jackson Haines who was born in 1840 and died in 1875 of pneumonia.  Right before the Civil War started in the United States,  a skating craze swept over America.  Then in 1914, George H. Browne organized the first International Figure Skating Championship of America.  Way back when, people used animal bones as the blades and animal skins as the boot to keep their feet warm while skating.  People also used to skate on ponds and lakes, and they still do, but now they have machine-built rinks.  Before these rinks were made, people could only skate during the winter because the ice would melt during the summer or the spring time.

Figure skating is the act of skating on an icy smooth surface.  The blades on skates help you stand up straight and glide on the ice. Something that a lot of people don't know is that skating helps blood circulate and makes your heart stronger.  This will help you live a long healthy life, so you can skate more.

History Of The United States

Most people know that our flag has 50 stars.  It also has 13 red and white stripes. A long time ago, our flag only had 13 stars on it. That was because back then we only had 13 states and now we have 50 states.  Another thing about the United States, is the population is about 275,000,000.  It is located on the continent of North America, which is in the Northern Hemisphere.  The United States is geographically located below Canada and above Mexico.
