The History and Rules of Basketball

In 1891 DR. James Naismith invented basketball using 2 poles and 2 peach baskets. The peach baskets were nailed to the 2 poles. The ball was a soccer ball and every time a basket was shot in, it would be retrieved with a step ladder. The number of players was reduced from 9 to 5. Dr. Naismith invented it so people could stay active during the winter. The game changed from "Naismith ball" to basketball.
The rules of basketball involve  3 different concepts. One is no deliberate contact between 2 players. Play goes smoothly with lots of chances to score. The ball is moved quickly with hands only.   Each team scores points by shooting the ball through the rim.  The game has 4 quarters.
