The Olympic Allure is a sixth grade class project on web page creation using Netscape Composer and Front Page.  The topic was any Olympic athlete from the past or the present.  The purpose of this project was to familiarize my students with a web authoring program and to give them a sense of what good web design entails.  It was also to have them research and learn about the dedication an individual must have in order to become a member of an Olympic team.  The allure of winning a gold medal inspires athletes to make a total commitment to achieve a goal but even more so it is hoped that my students will learn that:

"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle."
(Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the man responsible for beginning
the modern Olympics in 1896.)

Each web page was required to consist of the following components:

bulletA graphic representation of the sport the athlete participated in.
bulletA biographical sketch of the athlete.
bulletAt least two paragraphs about the history of the athletic event.
bulletAt least one paragraph that tells about the country the athlete comes from. This must include information about its history, geographic location, climate, economy, and other present day facts.
bulletA minimum of three links to the World Wide Web. These must have a logical basis for being part of the web page.
