Gymnastics- History and Present Day

Gymnastics began in 1972, with a girl named Olga Korbut. She was seen on TV. and a new sport had begun. Olga had captured the hearts of young girls all over the world, and gymnastics became popular. America has more than seven million active girls and women doing gymnastics. But the history of gymnastics did not begin with Olga and Nadia. The history is tracked back to ancient times in China, India, Persia, Greek and Rome.

Tumbling was passed down as entertainment to us today. From TV. to the Olympics various forms of gymnastics became popular. When gymnastics began in the USA it was started in 1850. Women's gymnastics began in  the Olympic games in 1928. The first Olympic game was held in  Greece in 776 BC. Mostly Romans and Greeks did gymnastics to increase their strength and agility. Art indicates that gymnastics was practiced 3,000 years ago in Egypt, Greece and Rome.
