History and Rules of Volleyball

Volleyball was invented in 1985.  It became an Olympic sport in 1964 in Holyoke, Massachusetts by William G. Morgan.  He decided to invent a sport similar to basketball, that could be played in a small area.  He used a net that was seven feet tall and 2 meters across a basketball court.

In volleyball, the rules on scoring are if one team has won fifteen points that makes a set.  They have to have at least a two point lead.  If the game reaches 14 -14 play will continue until one team gains a two point lead or reaches seventeen.  At the end of each set, teams change ends.  The winner is the team that wins the most sets.  Only the serving team can win a point.
( rules were taken from the book Volley by Bernie Blackall)
