Sugar Ray
Sugar Ray the horse

Narrative

Sugar Ray is a two month old horse. He is three quarters Welsh Cob and one quarter thoroughbred. He is liver chestnut which is a reddish and brownish color. His mother's name is Becky.  She is a bay which means she is a brown color. We got Becky with her sister Maybe, from Vermont. At the time we didn't know she was pregnant and was going to have a baby. We found out six weeks before she had the baby.

Sugar Ray's mom Becky is very sweet. Before she had a baby I used to ride her. At first when I just started to ride her I had a bad fall off of her. Then I didn't ride her for two or three months.  I just started to ride her after she had Sugar Ray.

My horse is very fresh and likes to run. When he was first born he would try to canter and either run into his mother or the stall wall. When he is in the paddock, he runs into the fence now and then. We know he will be a big horse because he was a big baby. Now that he is older, I can't handle him as well because he is too big and strong. His favorite thing to do is bite.

Sugar Ray's Heredity

It looks like Sugar Ray will take after his father and be a liver chestnut color. He has a beautiful head just like his mom and dad.  Sugar has a long neck he got from his maternal grandmother which is a thoroughbred.  His stockiness comes from being three quarters Welsh Cob.  Becky, Sugar Ray's mom, has two white hind stockings - so does Sugar Ray.

Background

Sugar Ray has two different breeds in him.  One breed is the Welsh Cob. The Cob came from Wales. Welsh Cobs are strong and intelligent. The Cobs' relatives are the Welsh pony, the Welsh mountain pony, and the Welsh pony Cob type.  The other breed is a Thoroughbred. The Thoroughbred was made to be fast and to race. Sugar Ray likes to run and race. The greatest Thoroughbred's name is Eclipse.  Brumby was the first name of Thoroughbreds. The breed was developed 3000 years ago in Roman times. Thoroughbreds height range from 14.2 to 17 hands. They were shipped to North America, France, Italy, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and South America.
