Hound dog Ruby May

Ruby May

Narrative

This is my dog Ruby.  My Mom got her from a newspaper ad. We got her before I was born.  My dog is a Rhodesian Ridgeback and a Redboned hound dog.  She has a very cute face and a white marking on her chest and a long tail.

Ruby does not shed.  Ruby is a nice dog and will not bite unless you get on her nerves. She is nice to other dogs and
people. We are not sure about her age. My family thinks she is about 17.

A funny thing about Ruby is she is scared of stairs and loud noises.  I know why she is scared of stairs.  It's because she fell down them a few times.  I do not know why she is scared of noises. A scary thing  about Ruby is when she howls.

Heredity

Ruby's breed is a Rhodesian Ridgeback and a Redbone Hound dog. Ruby was born to hunt and guard and to be a companion. The Rhodesian Ridgeback was developed by the first European settlers. These dogs are in the hound group. The Rhodesian Ridgeback has very keen sight and a very good sense of smell.  These dogs barley bark and are very gentle. Ruby is the same way. They are very protective but in their spare time they like to lay around in the sun. These dogs are good around little children.

The History and Geographical Origins

One of my dog's breeds is the Redboned Hound Dog.  They were first called SaddleBacks. Their name now is the Redboned Hound Dog.  They were reddish brownish with a white marking on their chest. The Redbones were used for hunting and guarding. These dogs hunted in packs.

The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a native of South Africa. This dog originated back in the 16th century.  This dog was bred to be a hunter, a guard dog, and a companion.  An example of this, is that they are the only dog that can hold off a lion so it's master can kill it or wound it. These dogs are very high in value and are rare to find. The Rhodesian Ridgeback has short hair and can go without water for a few days.
