Jasmine

Narrative

Jasmine

This is my dog Jasmine. I got her for my birthday. It was a surprise! I was in the living room doing something and my dad called me in. He had an animal in his coat but I couldn't make out what animal it was until I heard a yelp! Then my dad told me she was a yellow lab retriever. It took us weeks to name her. I wanted to name her Missy but my family said that would lead to confusion. Finally we named her Jasmine.  She loves to catch bugs. One day she flipped out about a fly on her nose. She ran around the house until she wore herself out.

My dog jumps all over people and I think I know why.   When we got her, we played with Jasmine. My friend and I taught her to chase us. From that day on she has been jumping all over people. Jasmine became house trained very quickly.  I am still having a little problem with Jasmine fetching the tennis balls. Jasmine thinks you are only supposed to watch it. My parents said this would be my last dog and I want her to be the BEST!!!

Heredity

Jasmine is a yellow lab retriever but she is really a light peach color. She is a purebred which means that she is not  a mutt. Jasmine is spayed. She is very much like a golden retriever but she does not have any recessive genes of golden.  Her yellow lab genes are dominant. Her hair is medium length and has light yellow and white streaks. Yellow Labs are very hyper dogs and so is our dog. She has long teeth in the back and short teeth in the front.

History

Labrador Retrievers originated in Newfoundland, Canada. Some people say that the dog originated in England but I believe that they originated in Newfoundland and were transported to England. Female Labradors can grow to 23.5  inches and can weigh up to 70 pounds. Labrador retrievers have oily hair because when they go in the water the ice won't stick to them. Did you know that Labradors almost disappeared? Well, when they transported them to England they put a tax on dogs.  Almost everybody got rid of their dogs. So they decided that they should mix the dog with the retriever.
