Griffy

Narrative

This is my dog Griffy, I got him in the fall of 1996. I remember that I was sick that day and was staying home from school. I was sitting in the kitchen and eating some cereal, while observing the back of the box I noticed a small picture of Ken Griffey Jr., and at that exact moment my mom came in the kitchen and told me the exciting news... we were going to get a new puppy! And then of course I knew what to name him, Griffy! So then my mom and I went to Plymouth to find Griffy. After an hour or so, we pulled into a nice neighborhood keeping alert for the address that my mom had written on a piece of paper. Then we found it. We got out of the car and a lady came out of the house and brought us to a flight of steps. We walked down them, opened a door and there were all the puppies. They were all cute, but Griffy was the cutest and the smallest , but if you saw him now, you wouldn't believe it because that little dog now weighs 115 pounds!!!

Heredity

Griffy's mother is a Blue Tick Coon Hound and his father is a Black Lab. As you can see Griffy is white with black spots and that is the way coons look. Every night Griffy goes outside and howls which is most likely a dominant trait he gets from his mother. Griffy also has a retrieving gene from his father which was from the Lab.

History

Griffy is part Blue Coon and part Black Lab. Black Labs originated in England but were brought over to Canada. People believe that Labs are made for retrieving, and are courageous and loyal dogs.

Blue Coons, more pacifically known as "Blue Tick Coon Hounds",  are from the South. They are kind a rare kind of hound, but are born with the howling and loyalty traits.
