Narrative
This is my family's dog. He was a couple weeks old when we got him. He was born on October 31, 1997 or Halloween. We got him from my friend Alex. My friend had a litter of Shepherds so he let us take one. We named him Butch, and sometimes we call him Butchie. We like him a lot because he protects our property from people, dogs, and other animals. He is very vicious around people he doesn't know. He does not get along with other dogs unless it's a female.
Butchie loves to chew things. His favorite thing to do is play fetch or run and get exercise. He usually doesn't go in the house because he destroys everything. We never let him come in the house when it starts to get hot because he sheds in big balls. A funny thing about him is that he goes on the roof of his dog house and barks or howls. Sometimes he even sleeps up there. When there is a thunder or lightning storm he goes to sleep in his dog house like nothing is happening.
Butch's Heredity
He is about 95% German Shepherd and 5% Labrador
Retriever. His mother was just about all German Shepherd. She is yellowish-orange.
His father was 85% German Shepherd and 15% Labrador Retriever. His father
probably was gray, black, and white because that's what Butch looks like,
and he couldn't have gotten it from his mother because she is not gray,
black, and white. His mother must have got her color from her parents because
a German Shepherd is usually gray, black, and white.

History
German Shepherds are a recent breed in dog breeding history. They were bred in the late 1880's up to the mid 1900's. They came from Germany. German Shepherds were mostly bred for being Police Dogs. In Police Work they could sniff out drugs. They were also used for the blind. They are usually 60-85 pounds. Mine is about 75-80 pounds.
Labrador Retrievers come from England. They were bred for hunting and retrieving. They are well known for their swimming.
